Several years later, he returned to Columbia as an adjunct professor to co-teach a seminar on biblical jurisprudence with Professor George Fletcher.

He began his legal studies at the Hebrew University Law School, where he earned his LL.B (cum laude) and LL.M (summa cum laude) degrees, taught Contract Law and Jurisprudence as an instructor and served on the editorial board of the Law Review ("Mishpatim"). Following his studies, Kalir clerked for the Hon. Miriam Naor, then-Judge and currently the Chief Justice of the Israeli Supreme Court. Practicing law in Israel, Professor Kalir had the privilege of serving all three branches of the Israeli Government. He also argued several times successfully before the Israeli Supreme Court.
