ABOUT THE PROGRAM

CSU’s online ABSN is an accelerated, immersive opportunity for aspiring nurses with non-nursing bachelor’s or master’s degrees to become registered nurses. You’ll build real-world competency, experience integrated clinical placement services and receive comprehensive support throughout your academic journey.

Curriculum Sample

Introduces the student to the purpose of theory development in nursing, selected nursing models, and the philosophy and conceptual framework of the CSU School of Nursing. Explores attributes, values, nursing history and ethics that support the professional nurse practice. Emphasizes acquisition of knowledge and skills for facilitative and therapeutic communication and the appreciation of cultural diversity. Includes writing across the curriculum (WAC) assignment. (2 credits)

Introduces the student to various classifications of drugs used in the care of clients experiencing stressors. Emphasis is on nursing implications. (3 credits)

Introduces the research process and the contributions of research to the improvement of nursing practice. Focuses on the critical analysis and interpretation of research reports and the development of strategies for implementation of research findings. (2 credits)

Focuses on leadership and management theories and concepts as they relate to the practice of nursing and the delivery of care in a variety of community-based settings. Emphasizes the use of change theory and quality assurance concepts. Approaches to developing leader/change agent and consultant/collaborator roles are explored. (2 credits)

How does the clinical placement process work?

You’ll work directly with your dedicated clinical placement team who will help identify a suitable clinical placement site within a reasonable distance from your home and coordinate the preceptor details.

How do I prepare for nursing clinicals?

You’ll work with and remain in close communication with your placement team throughout your program. This team will advise you to ensure you complete all requirements, meet deadlines and have completed all requirements on your nursing clinicals checklist.

When can I expect to receive details regarding clinical placement?

Prior to each clinical start date, your placement team will notify you of your clinical assignment and start date. Once confirmed and communicated, you’ll be encouraged to work with your preceptor to establish your schedule.

What can I expect from my clinical experience?

Each individual clinical placement will be its own unique experience due to the variety of health care environments students will work in. During your clinical rotations which go hand in hand with your nursing courses, you’ll work under the close supervision of your preceptor and, indirectly, the CSU clinical faculty.
