Financial Aid

Financial aid can help bridge the gap between your resources and the cost of tuition. Navigating the financial aid process from start to finish can be confusing, but we work with you to develop a financial aid plan that meets your needs so you can reach your educational goals. It’s important to start the process early, complete the required documents and borrow smartly if you need loans.

Financial aid is available in the form of grants, loans and scholarships and can come from federal, state, school and private resources. Watch this video to learn the different ways you can get support to pay for your higher education.

Students who plan on using financial aid are required to submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) annually. Your FAFSA is used to determine grant and loan amounts to help with the cost of attending CSU. These funds come from a variety of federal, state and institutional sources. You should complete the form even if you do not believe you will be eligible for any financial aid.

Financial Aid Application Process

To be considered for financial aid, you must first file the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Cleveland State University’s Federal School Code is 003032. Use this school code to ensure your FAFSA information is accurately transmitted to Cleveland State.

Points to Remember

  • Review the Student Aid Report (SAR) you receive from the U.S. Department of Education. Ensure all required sections are complete and accurate and that you indicated Cleveland State University’s federal school code, 003032. Follow the instructions to make corrections if necessary, then keep the final SAR for your records.

  • Keep a copy of all documents that you submit to the Office of Financial Aid.

  • Be certain that you understand the conditions of the awards you accept.

  • Advise the Office of Financial Aid immediately if you receive student aid funds from any independent outside source (e.g., private scholarships and grants). A change in your resources may affect your CSU financial aid package.

  • Remember that you must reapply for financial aid each year. We prefer that you apply for financial aid after October.
